Ford key replacement and programming

Mobile key cutting and programming for Ford vehicles at your location. Ford’s key systems range from simple mechanical keys with a separate remote, to remote-head keys, to a keypad entry code on some models, to a push-button-start Smart Key on later trims. Confirm trim level along with model year when identifying the system. We confirm the exact key system from your VIN before dispatch.

Technology reference

Ford key and immobilizer systems

Each section covers one Ford key system: what the key looks like, and what programming or All Keys Lost service involves. Years are approximate and vary by model, trim and build date. We confirm the exact system from your VIN.

Mechanical keys and separate remotes

A metal key turns the ignition by hand with no electronic check. A separate remote on the ring may lock and unlock the doors but does not start the Ford.

What you see
A plain metal key with no buttons. Any remote is a separate piece.
Programming
No chip to program. The blade is cut to code or decoded from a lock; a separate remote is programmed on its own.
All keys lost
A new key can be cut from the key code or by decoding a lock at the vehicle.

PATS transponder keys

Ford’s Passive Anti-Theft System reads a chip in the key head. On many PATS vehicles, two working keys let an extra key be added without full programming equipment.

What you see
A metal key with a thick plastic head, usually with a separate remote on earlier vehicles.
Programming
The chip is programmed with diagnostic equipment, or on some vehicles by an onboard procedure when two working keys are present.
All keys lost
Possible at the vehicle on most models. Security access often includes a timed wait during programming.

Integrated keyhead and flip keys

The chip, blade and remote buttons are combined into one integrated keyhead, in fixed or flip designs.

What you see
One piece with lock, unlock, panic and sometimes remote-start buttons.
Programming
Chip and remote are programmed together.
All keys lost
Possible at the vehicle on most models, with the same timed security access as PATS keys.

Intelligent Access and push-button start

A proximity fob that unlocks and starts the vehicle while it stays in your pocket. Availability depends on trim as well as model year.

What you see
A button fob with a hidden emergency blade.
Programming
The fob is programmed to the vehicle with diagnostic equipment.
All keys lost
Possible on many models; can take longer than turn-key systems.

SecuriCode keypad entry

Some Fords have a numeric keypad on the driver’s door that unlocks the vehicle with a code, independent of the key.

What you see
A row of numbered buttons on the door pillar or near the handle.
Programming
The keypad code is separate from the key. It does not start the vehicle.
All keys lost
A keypad can get you in, but a key or fob is still needed to start.

Each model page lists that model’s key systems by year and links back to the matching section above.

Important compatibility notice — final key compatibility must be confirmed

The key images, vehicle models, and year ranges shown on this page are provided as a general identification guide and may not apply to every vehicle. The manufacturer may use different key systems within the same model year depending on trim level, production date, manufacturing location, ignition type, and factory equipment. Final compatibility must be confirmed using the vehicle’s VIN, ignition type, existing key or fob, and vehicle information before service. The images are representative examples and do not guarantee an exact visual match.
